The Film Academy regrets the name change of the Plaza de Francisco Rabal and the Asunción Balaguer House of Culture

The Academy of Dinner has regretted “deep” the recent name change of the Francisco Rabal Square and the House of Culture Asunción Balaguer in the Madrid municipality of Alpedrete.

Paco Rabal and Asunción Balaguer are two recognized and very beloved interpreters of Spanish cinema, so from this institution we join the sentiment expressed by their family and by so many professional colleagues in the vindication of their figure“, the institution chaired by Fernando Méndez-Leite said in a statement.

Furthermore, the Academy has defended that they are two “key” professionals in Spanish cinematography and culture. The names of the Plaza de Paco Rabal and Casa de la Cultura Asunción Balaguer appeared since 2001 and 2015, respectively, in the street map of Alpedrete (Madrid), but have been changed by the current government of the region since the end of April.

For this same reason, The AISGE Foundation has launched an official call for a rally in the aforementioned square for next Saturday, May 11, starting at 7:00 p.m. According to the association, the objective is to demand that the local authorities restore the names of both artists on the street map of this municipality in the mountains of Madrid.

Furthermore, more than 5,300 people have already signed this same petition on ‘Change.org’, while the actor Emilio Gutiérrez Caba made public an ‘Open Letter to Asunción and Paco’ showing his “pain and anger” over what happened.
