Gallery of the Royal Collections will celebrate International Museum Day with an open day and dance

The Gallery of the Royal Collections will celebrate the International Museum Day next May 18 with a special programming that includes dance, warehouse visits and roundtable discussions as well as an open day – from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. – like the rest of the Royal Sites and Royal Patronages managed by National Heritage, with the exception of the houses of El Escorial and El Pardo.

So, On May 16 and 17, the Gallery will open the doors of its warehouses to the public for the first time. It is one of the museum’s greatest assets, with six large rooms equipped with the most advanced storage and conservation systems where works from the Royal Collections are kept.

Visits will be on the 16th at 12 and 5 p.m. and on the 17th, at 10:30 and 12:30 p.m. Dance will be another of the extraordinary activities around the celebration of May 18 in the Gallery of the Royal Collections. The National Choreographic Center/Aterballetto will offer, thanks to the collaboration of the Italian Institute of Culture of Madrid, six 40-minute shows.

The artistic shows will take place on May 23 at 12, 3 and 5 p.m. and on the 24th at 12, 4 and 6 p.m. This activity is free with admission. The dancers will tour the exhibition halls with stops at iconic points such as the Arab wall, the musical cabinet or the Holy Week monument of Ventura Rodríguez.

Besides, On Tuesday, May 21 and 28, there will be three round tables formed by experts in the field, moderated by a journalist and accompanied by a ‘godfather’ of the Gallery, who will address the role of museums in social cohesion, in education and in the use of new technologies.
