Siida is the museum of the year – Culture

The award committee described Siida as the most significant place to visit in Northern Lapland.

In Lapland The Sámi museum and nature center Siida, located in the church village of Inari, has been chosen as museum of the year. The prize was awarded on Thursday at the Museum Award Gala organized in Jyväskylä.

The award committee described Siida as the most significant place to visit in Northern Lapland. According to the board’s reasoning, Siida has promoted the social visibility and impact of the museum industry in a significant way.

Earlier this year, Siida was also chosen as the European museum of the year.

The Museum of the Year rotating prize is awarded by the Finnish Committee of the International Council of Museums ICOM and the Finnish Museum Association. The prize was awarded for the tenth time.

The 2024 special award went to Varkaus museum center Konsti, which was also nominated for museum of the year.
