'Volverás', by Jonás Trueba, best European film of the Filmmakers' Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival

The film ‘Volverás’, directed by Jonás Trueba and starring Itsaso Arana and Vito Sanz, has won the Label Europa Cinemas award, the most important award given at the Filmmakers’ Fortnight at the Cannes Festival.

‘Volverás’ was one of the 22 productions (not only European) that have been screened in 2024 in this competition parallel to Cannes. And although this section does not have official honors, two unofficial awards are given

The comedy about the end of love and full of self-references tells the story of a film director, Ale (Arana) and an actor, Alex (Sanz), who decide to break up by mutual agreement after more than a decade together and decide to celebrate this done with a big party in the style of a wedding, but in reverse, which causes confusion to his friends and family.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Jonás Trueba (Madrid, 1981) made his debut as a feature film director with ‘All the songs speak of me’ (2010), for which he was nominated for the Goya for best new director.
