The World in the Village festival responded to the criticism by adding the Palestinian situation to the speaking program – Culture

The event added an opportunity to Sunday’s program, which deals with the activities of Finnish aid organizations in Palestine.

On Sunday The discussion about the program of the ongoing Maailma kyläsä festival in Helsinki continues. The event presenting the activities of non-governmental organizations and global issues did not initially include the situation in Palestine, which caused confusion.

The topic came up at the end of the week, when the journalist-writer Koko Hubara and human rights activist Natalia Kallio criticized the festival that it has not included a single Palestinian performer or speaker in its program.

They wondered why Israel’s war in Gaza does not appear in the program, even though the issue of Ukraine is on the agenda.

On Saturday night, the festival announced that it had added a discussion on Palestine to the Sunday speaking program.

On Saturday Finland’s Palestine network Sumud said on Instagram that it had already offered a Palestinian photographer to the festival’s program in November by Mohammed Zaanoun exhibition and a panel related to the topic, but the festival did not include it.

The Maailma kyläsä festival responded to Sumud’s message on Instagram and said that there was no money in the festival’s budget for the exhibition and that there were no speech program proposals.

On Saturday evening, the World in the village published bulletinaccording to which a discussion has been added to the festival’s early Sunday evening program, which deals with the activities of Finnish aid organizations in Palestine.

The representatives of the organizations at the event are the executive director of Doctors without Borders Linda Acquaintance and YMCA organization’s development cooperation program manager Milla Nummenmaaand they are interviewed by a reporter Karolina Knuuti.

According to the organizers, about 20,000 people visited the event on Saturday. Admission to the festival is free.
