After injecting beauty filler worth 27 million VND at an “underground” cosmetic facility, the woman’s face was swollen and had to ask for help from the Department of Health.

On March 28, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that he received feedback from patients via the hotline, informing him that he could not contact the owner of the cosmetic facility to handle complications. Department Inspectors coordinated with the police and local authorities to inspect the cosmetic facility – a house in alley 138 Nguyen Trai Street, Cho Quan Ward. The team discovered that this facility did not have a medical examination and treatment license, the person directly injecting filler did not have a practicing certificate and admitted to injecting filler to customers for 27 million VND and had performed many similar cases.

The authorities issued a record to fine the facility 80 million VND, suspended operations for 18 months and forced to return all illegal profits. The facility can only resume operations when it fully meets the legal conditions. The homeowner must commit not to re-use the house as an illegal medical examination and treatment facility.

A representative of the Department of Health commented that the incident continues to warn about the situation of “undercover cosmetic surgery”. Invasive procedures such as filler injections, if performed by non-professionals under conditions that do not ensure sterility, can cause dangerous complications such as infection, embolism, necrosis, and even blindness if not treated promptly.

Beauty treatments should be performed at licensed medical facilities or cosmetic clinics, performed by doctors with practice certificates. Do not use the service at unclear locations such as private homes, “mobile” facilities, or without signs. Look up facility and practitioner information on the Department’s information portal, and report via the hotline when detecting signs of violations.
