Why does skin darken when it’s sunny?

Dark skin and melasma in the sunny season are common problems, especially when the intensity of ultraviolet (UV) rays increases and lasts longer. UV rays (including UVA and UVB) can stimulate melanocytes to increase melanin production to protect the skin from damage. However, melanin pigment is produced too much and is pushed to the surface of the skin, causing the skin to become dark. If this process continues continuously, melanin can accumulate and form uneven skin tones, dark spots, freckles, age spots…

During the sunny season, the UV index is often continuously high for many hours of the day, making the skin more susceptible to hyperpigmentation. UV rays increase the number of inflammatory cells in the skin, promoting melanin production to enhance skin protection factors. High penetration allows UV rays to attack the foundation layer, depleting collagen, making skin less vital and uneven skin tones more obvious.

The degree of dark spots and melasma formation varies from person to person, depending on skin type, duration of sun exposure and skin health. In addition, the habit of staying up late, prolonged stress, and an unbalanced diet can also affect the skin’s ability to recover, making the condition worse.

You should see a Dermatology – Skin Aesthetics department for examination and appropriate treatment. To control this condition, you need to persistently combine many measures, including using sunscreen every day and covering up carefully when going out. Drink lots of water, apply moisturizer… to strengthen the skin’s natural protective barrier. Eat healthy with nutrient-rich foods to increase skin resistance and maintain skin elasticity and smoothness.

Some natural nutrients such as Collagen peptide, Sakura, Pomegranate can reduce melanin production and reduce dark spots. Essences such as P.leucotomos, Litchi, Lemon help stimulate collagen regeneration and protect skin structure. When combined properly, they can help brighten, smooth and even skin tone over time.
