Israel: The Ministry of Health warns of extreme heat: the peak is expected from Friday to Sunday.

The Israeli Ministry of Health has issued heat advisories due to a heat wave expected in most parts of the country, peaking between Friday, July 31, and Sunday, August 2.

Temperatures are expected to reach 47°C (119°F) in the Kinneret region and the Jordan Valley. In other areas, daytime temperatures will average 35-40°C (95-104°F).

The ministry urges people to avoid sun exposure and strenuous exercise whenever possible, to drink water regularly, and to stay in air-conditioned spaces. Particular caution is advised for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.

Those outdoors are advised to wear a wide-brimmed hat, wear light, comfortable clothing, use sunscreen, and carry water. Drivers are advised to take regular breaks. The Ministry of Health reminds people not to leave children, the elderly, vulnerable individuals, or animals unattended in vehicles.

The risk of heatstroke increases during hot periods. Those at risk include the elderly, infants and children under four, people with cardiovascular and chronic diseases, obesity, dehydration, those taking certain medications, and those engaged in intense physical activity.

Signs of heatstroke may include high body temperature, hot, flushed skin, severe headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, or loss of consciousness. In such cases, call 101 immediately, move the victim to a cool, shaded area, and cool their body. If heatstroke is suspected, do not give the victim anything to drink; medical professionals should administer fluids intravenously.
