The number of Israeli military personnel and veterans suffering from PTSD has risen to 38 thousand

After the start of the war, the number of military personnel and veterans with mental injuries registered with the rehabilitation department of the Ministry of Defense increased from 11 thousand to 38 thousand. According to the department, by 2028 their number could reach 50 thousand, reports N12.

Many young reservists, after hundreds of days of service, are faced with insomnia, nightmares, increased anxiety and an inability to return to school or work. Some say that even normal daily activities, such as showering or brushing their teeth, become a chore.

The workload on rehabilitation services has doubled: the number of calls has increased from 700 thousand to 1.4 million, while the staff has remained virtually unchanged. According to N12, there are about 850 patients per social worker, and about 3,900 per doctor.

Experts warn that the consequences of a prolonged war can be felt for decades and will affect not only the military personnel themselves, but also their families and society as a whole. Experts are calling on the government to make helping people with PTSD a national priority.
