Mad badger discovered in Upper Galilee

The Ministry of Health reports that a badger with rabies was found in orchards near the village of Ayelet HaShahar in the Upper Galilee. One person who had contact with the animal was sent to undergo a preventive course against rabies.

The Ministry of Health asks everyone who came into contact with this animal or whose pets came into contact with an infected or stray animal in the area of ​​the incident between July 2 and July 16, 2026 inclusive, to urgently contact the district health bureau in Safed by calling 04-6994257 or 04-6994200, or to the health bureau closest to their place of residence to assess the need for preventive treatment.

During non-working hours and on weekends, you should go to the hospital emergency room.

Parents are asked to find out from their children whether they have had contact with suspicious animals. Pet owners are advised to contact the municipal veterinarian and check the vaccination status of their pets.

The Ministry of Health reminds that if an animal is bitten or scratched, you must immediately wash the area of ​​contact with running water and soap, treat with a disinfectant and contact the health bureau to check the need for vaccination against rabies.
