10 years after the government decision, the construction of a hospital in Beersheba was approved

The government has approved the creation of a new hospital in Beersheba. The program for the construction and financing of the new hospital was presented by Health Minister Uriel Buso and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

The hospital will be jointly owned by the Leumit and Meuhedet health insurance funds and Sheba Hospital, and the operation of the hospital will be under the responsibility of Sheba Hospital.

The new hospital is due to open by 2028 and will include 600 beds and provide a wide range of different services, both inpatient and outpatient.

Thus, the current government is finally moving forward with the government’s 2014 decision to build a new hospital in Beersheba. During the waiting period, several governments changed in Israel, each of which carried out the next stage of approving the program and published reports about it.

A joint statement from the ministries of health and finance said that the new hospital is designed to strengthen the medical service system in the south of Israel, will attract qualified specialists, and will improve the quality and availability of medical services for the population of the south of the country. In addition, the new hospital should increase competition in the healthcare market and reduce social gaps in access to healthcare.
