Sex films instead of Corona data: Canadian Ministry of Health links to porn site

In a post on Twitter, the Ministry of Health of the Canadian province of Québec accidentally linked not the data platform for the latest corona case numbers, but a porn site. “Due to a situation beyond our control, a link with inappropriate content has been published on our Twitter account,” the ministry said on Thursday (local time). “We are in the process of investigating the causes of this. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

The tweet in question was deleted shortly after it appeared. The shortened link was originally intended to disseminate the latest data on the pandemic in the French-speaking province. This recorded more than 3,100 new cases and 26 more deaths on Thursday. Instead, however, the link led to the Pornhub site, one of the most popular porn platforms in the world. It is a subsidiary of MindGeek, which is based in Montreal, Quebec.

Users speculated about a possible cause under the post. A user suspected that a transposed number in the bit.ly link could have led to confusion. Unsurprisingly, the breakdown not only caused displeasure. “For once, the government is giving us useful information,” one user tweeted. (AFP, Tsp)
