Anesthesiologists do not recommend full anesthesia for those who have recently had coronavirus

The Association of Anesthesiologists, led by Dr. Shai Fine, warns of the risk of various complications after full anesthesia in patients who have recently had a coronavirus infection. At the same time, they refer to a clinical study in Israel and abroad, according to which the risk of complications exists during the first two months after the disease.

On Tuesday, April 19, the program “Tokhnit Khasakhon”, broadcast on the 12th TV channel, reported that discussions on this topic had been going on in the Ministry of Health for several weeks. The document, which got to the editors of the TV channel, says that in patients who have had a mild form of coronavirus, the threat of complications from anesthesia persists for a month, in those who were seriously ill – from two to three months.

According to forecasts, after the end of Passover, the Ministry of Health will issue a recommendation to refrain from elective surgery under full anesthesia for two months after the coronavirus.
