Eleven changes possible against Switzerland

The regulators of world football had decided to increase the number of possible substitutions from six to eight in official international test matches. If both teams agree on a higher limit, up to eleven substitutions are possible.

A corresponding number was agreed by the DFB and the Swiss Football Association for the game in Basel. However, the restriction remains at three so-called change windows plus the half-time break as slots. So eleven individual substitutions cannot be made. This is intended to prevent time play.

Switzerland coach wants to exhaust the quota

Murat Yakin, the Swiss coach, has already announced that he would like to exhaust this quota in order to be able to field as many World Cup candidates as possible. Julian Nagelsmann has 25 players in the squad and could therefore use all but three players – including DFB newcomers Lennart Karl and Jonas Urbig.

At the World Cup in the summer, however, the rule for competitive games with up to five substitutions and one more if a game goes into extra time still applies.
