France-Iceland (2-1): the Bleuets carry out a great operation on their runner-up in qualifying for the Euro Espoirs

The French youth team is still undefeated in the qualifying phase for the 2027 Under-21 Euro. This Monday in Auxerre, the Bleuets defeated Iceland (2-1) in their sixth match of the group stage of the qualifiers.

Gérald Baticle’s group carried out a great operation with a view to qualifying for the final tournament, organized by Albania and Serbia in the summer of 2027. While the French were only two points ahead of their evening opponent, they offered themselves a cushion of five units over their runner-up.

Lebreton and Zézé scorers

Winger Noé Lebreton (10th) and center back Nathan Zézé (29th) had put the Bleuets on the right track, despite the equalizer in the meantime from Daniel Gudjohnsen (24th, sp). The Icelanders hit the bar in added time, but the Bleuets held on for their victory.

The only Paris Saint-Germain player called up in the original list by Baticle, Senny Mayulu had to withdraw from this gathering due to discomfort in his right calf. Paris FC player Nhoa Sangui was on the match sheet, but the coach did not offer him a third selection with the Espoirs.

Potential competitor to Lucas Chevalier in the France A team, Robin Risser had to lose on Gudjohnsen’s penalty, conceded by captain Leny Yoro. The RC Lens goalkeeper only had two other shots on target to negotiate.
