The attacker David Alves was the main novelty of Coritiba on the bench in the 1-1 draw with Fluminense, last Saturday (4), in the 10th round of the Brazilian Championship. Given the absence of Lavega, suspended, and Keno, injured, the young man was listed for the first time as part of the main team delegation.
After the match, at the press conference, coach Fernando Seabra commented on the striker, who arrived at the club in 2024 and has a experience in futsal, where he played for Palmeiras’ youth teams.
“David is a player who started training with us in the pre-season. He has a lot of quality in his relationship with the ball, individual imbalance, he is a player who came from futsal and he has been working professionally with us since then”, highlighted Seabra.
Versatility and adaptation to the field
Left-handed, the young man plays in different offensive roles, but is still adapting to field football. David’s versatility in the offensive sector was highlighted by the coach Cox-Branca, who highlighted the characteristic as part of the work carried out in Coritiba’s youth categories.
“He is a left-footed player who can play in any position there, from the left wing to the right wing, or as a midfielder. Ease of association, dribbling, passing, technically very interesting, but he is still a player who, having spent a long time in futsal, is still getting used to field football, but works very well, very humble and with many individual qualities”, added the coach.
A clear example of this application of methodology at the club is striker Lucas Ronier, who has been used in different roles in the offensive sector. The player can play either wide on the left or as a more centralized number 10, a role he played in the match against Fluminense. Furthermore, the marking ability also appears as one of its strong points.
Base numbers
Standing 1.76m tall, David Alves was born in 2008 and has played five games for the under-20 team this season. In 2025, the striker played 13 games for the under-17 team.
The player is another example of Coritiba’s investment in athletes with futsal training. In addition to him, the club also brought forward Renato, who reached the under-20 age limit in 2026.
“If he had his opportunity today, it is on merit. So, he has worked well in training and has played well in the Under-20s. Any youth player will have an opportunity in the professional ranks when the team needs it. Space has to be conquered and this space, in the game relationship, he (David) conquered”, concluded Seabra.
Coritiba is now preparing to face the Botafogofor the 11th round of the Brasileirão. The game will be at the Nilton Santos stadium on Sunday (12), at 4pm. Currently, the team occupies seventh place, with 15 points.
