Bayern Munich-Real (4-3): after a crazy match, the Munich residents qualify and will face PSG in the half

For a long time, Paris Saint-Germain players undoubtedly believed that they would have to wait until the end of the unbearable suspense of extra time to find out their opponent in the semi-final of the Champions League.

But this crazy meeting between Bayern Munich, winner in the first leg in Spain (1-2), and Real Madrid was so until the end, until a suffocating end to the match which saw the Bavarians, although jostling, win (4-3) and win the right to face the reigning European champions for a place in the final.

A red card that changed everything

It didn’t take more than 35 seconds for this meeting to slip into this sweet madness which carried us through the entire evening, when a huge restart error from Manuel Neuer allowed Arda Güler to score his first goal in the Champions League (0-1, 1st).

Completely unbridled, the first period was a real game of ping-pong. After a lightning equalizer, again on an error by goalkeeper Lunin (1-1, 6th), Real regained the advantage with a superb free kick from Güler, again (1-2, 29th). And when Harry Kane thought he was putting the Bavarians back in the right direction (2-2, 38th), it was the inevitable Kylian Mbappé who completed a quick counterattack to put Real back in front just before the break (2-3, 42nd).

Rarely have we seen Bayern so upset and open this season, and we have to go back to November 26 against Arsenal to see Vincent Kompany’s men concede three goals. But upon returning from the locker room, the match ends, and changes with five minutes to go. Eduardo Camavinga first takes a second yellow for a stupid anti-play action. Reduced to ten, Real conceded a goal in stride, a dry strike from Luis Diaz which sent Bayern to the semi-final (3-3, 89th). Before Michael Olise drives home the point with a sublime strike, the last action of the match (4-3, 90th + 4).

No reunion between the Park and Mbappé

It is therefore Bayern Munich who will find PSG, qualified on Tuesday thanks to their victory at Anfield (0-2). An opponent against whom the Parisians are used to suffering, and losing: 10 matches played under the QSI era, including a Champions League final in 2020, for a record of 7 Bavarian victories. The latest one? Last November 4, in the League phase, in a match where Bayern particularly displayed their superiority in the first period on the Parc lawn.

But Paris is not the same team as in November, and Bayern will undoubtedly be a little dented by doubt after having conceded three goals against an ultra-realistic Real Madrid (3 shots on target, 3 goals in the first period).

In any case, the poster looks sublime between the two best teams in Europe, for a final before its time. It would have been good, too, against Real, but fate would have had it otherwise for Kylian Mbappé and his teammates. In addition to being deprived of a reunion with the Parc des Princes, the captain of the Blues will therefore experience his first season without a major club title.
