FC Bayern Munich can play the second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain in front of full stands, but will have to pay a hefty fine. The German champions were fined almost 90,000 euros by the European Football Union for various incidents in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid. The people of Munich were spared the threat of partial exclusion of spectators.
In the final phase of Real’s game at the Allianz Arena, Bayern supporters climbed over the fence and reached the edge of the pitch. After the 4-3 winning goal in stoppage time, they cheered and pressed against photographers who were sitting behind the advertising board. Some journalists were trapped. According to police, at least two women and two men were injured.
UEFA has now imposed a fine of 40,000 euros for the interior violation. In addition, there are 30,000 euros for fans spreading inappropriate messages, 14,000 euros for blocking public passages and 5,625 euros for throwing objects.
No fan exclusion despite Bayern probation
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freud criticized the incidents after the game, but at the same time also appealed for understanding. “It was chaos and we’re sorry for that. But it was an extraordinary evening of football with very, very many emotions. And then it certainly boiled over a bit,” said Freund.
Lucky for the people of Munich: After repeated pyrotechnic riots by Bayern fans, they were sentenced to probation in December 2025 to block the entire south curve. However, UEFA refrained from this sanction for the Paris match on May 6th.
