Trump on World Cup ticket prices: “Wouldn’t pay for that”

Co-host USA will face Paraguay at the start of the World Cup on June 12 (local time) in Los Angeles. The cheapest card costs 1,940 dollars (1,650 euros) on FIFA’s sales website and at least 1,150 dollars (980 euros) on the world association’s official resale website.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously defended the prices and emphasized that they reflected the North American market. The Swiss also pointed out that a quarter of the tickets for the group phase were offered for less than $300.

Trump indicated that the US government could also address the prices. “I haven’t seen it, but I would have to look into it,” he said. It is important to him that his voters can attend the games. At the same time, Trump admitted that the tournament was a great economic success and exceeded all previous records.

The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11th to July 19th in the USA, Mexico and Canada. With 48 teams and 104 games, it is the largest finals to date. According to FIFA, around five million of the seven million tickets have already been sold, and a further sales phase has been running since Thursday.
