Cagliari beats Toro 2-1 and gains salvation

Cagliari conquers arithmetic salvation with a day to spare. One point was enough for the Sardinians to be certain of remaining in Serie A and instead in the last home match of the season the Sardinians from Pisacane took the liberty of beating Torino in a comeback 2-1 thanks to goals from Sebastiano Esposito and Mina, in response to the initial advantage achieved by Obrador.

However, the fateful 40 reached thanks also to the saves of Caprile, who was decisive in the second half against Adams, and to some errors in front of the Granata goal. For the guests’ first great scoring opportunity we had to wait until the 30th minute. After talking with Vlasic, Simeone shoots from a favorable position but only finds the outside of the net. The Granata’s lead goal was only postponed.

The credit goes to Obrador who scored the first goal in Serie A with a great right-footed shot from long range that removed the cobwebs under the top corner of the goal defended by Caprile. Cagliari’s reaction was immediate and was entrusted to Sebastiano Esposito who created space to shoot from the edge of the area and unleashed a right-footed shot into the corner. Nothing to do for Paleari, who also conceded the second goal at the end of the first half: the goalkeeper denied Zappa the goal, but on the rebound Mina was the quickest to head it into the net.

In the second half, D’Aversa’s moves to overturn the result were Casadei and Che Adams, who with the first ball touched looked for an author’s goal from midfield without however surprising Caprile. The duel is repeated in the 74th minute: a lopsided clearance from Zappa turns into an assist for Adams who volleys with a sure shot and finds himself once again opposed by the Sardinian goalkeeper. In the finale there is also room for the great former Belotti. One more player sacrificed to try to let the home team breathe.

However, there is time for one last thrill at the end: Simeone fails to hit the net from a moving penalty, but the Granata’s protests are all for an alleged touch with the arm of Folorunsho in the area. The silent check from the VAR room precedes the final whistle. Cagliari is safe and will end their championship at San Siro with Milan. Toro will try to redeem yet another anonymous season in the derby against Juventus.
