Pillar of the team and favorite of the fans, Jacy completes one year in Coritiba

Exactly one year ago, the Coritiba announced the signing of the defender What amid a turbulent scenario on and off the field. After a 2024 marked by early eliminations and instability in Series B, the defender arrived at Alto da Glória surrounded by doubts, but, with just 48 matches played, he has already put his name in the club’s history.

At the beginning of the month, in a press conference, Jacy opened her heart when talking about the relationship built with Coritiba and recalled the feelings she experienced when she received the invitation to wear the alviverde shirt.

Hired from Operário, the defender revealed that the opportunity affected the whole family and admitted that he also arrived at the club feeling insecure due to the size of the challenge and the pressure that Coritiba was facing at that time.

“I don’t think I’ll forget William’s call. I was dropping Miguel off at school and he called me. When he invited me, I told him I just needed to help my mother. He said: ‘You can come and we’ll give you all the support’. When I told my wife, she mentioned it to my brother-in-law, who is very lame, and he said he was going to give Miguel a shirt”, he recalled.

The defender admitted that he arrived at the club with fear of the pressure he was experiencing at that time. “I arrived here with a little fear. I knew the pressure from the fans, the situation of the club in Paranaense, the early fall in the Copa do Brasil”, he revealed.

Debut and affirmation at the club

Jacy debuted for Coritiba on June 5, 20206, in a game against Atletico-GO in the 11th round of Series B. Initially used as a midfielder, Jacy was quickly moved to defense by then coach Mozart and gained success. Identification with the fans happened in a short time, mainly due to his dedication on the field and his participation in the campaign of the least leaked defense in Series B.

“In each game, I managed to give myself and show who I was. I think the fans understood that and embraced me in a way I didn’t imagine it would be so quickly”, he said.

After helping Coritiba win the Series B title and returning the club to the elite of Brazilian football after two seasons, Jacy experienced one of the most memorable moments of her career at Alto da Glória.

In the 1-1 draw with Vasco, in the ninth round of the Brazilian Championship, at Couto Pereira, the Alviverde fans displayed a special flag in honor of the defender before the ball rolled.

The image showed Jacy holding her son Miguel, with the symbolic presence of her mother, Antonia Claudia, a cancer victim who passed away in 2025. The banner also carried the message: “She is proud, Jacy!”.

The tribute moved the defender, who revealed that he still remembers that moment to this day. “It was a tribute that to this day I keep looking at the photos and the painting I received. It’s something that really moves me. While there was a huge loss in my life, it’s also a joy for what we built together”, he said.

End near?

Like every story in football, Jacy’s at Coritiba will also have a beginning, middle and end. But, at least at this moment, the final chapter seems far from happening. Very identified with the club, the defender stated that he sees in Coxa the opportunity that changed his career and reinforced his desire to build a long career at Alto da Glória.

“My thoughts are very much here at Coritiba. It was the club that gave me the opportunity to appear for Brazil and play in Series A. I learned to like, love and respect this club. I try to demonstrate this every day on the field”, he highlighted.

With a contract in force until 2028 and increasingly consolidated as a reference in the squad, the defender plans to continue writing his history at the club. “I hope to be able to spend two, three years and, if God allows, a lot of time here in Coritiba. I’m living a moment of great gratitude”, he added.
