Real Madrid will pay 15 million euros for Mourinho if Florentino wins the elections

SL Benfica reported this Thursday that Florentino Pérez, if he wins the elections for the presidency of Real Madrid this Sunday, has already expressed to the Portuguese club his “firm intention” to hire José Mourinho as coach, for which the Madrid club will have to pay 15 million euros of the termination clause.

“Benfica informs that the candidacy of president Florentino Pérez for the Real Madrid elections has expressed the firm intention of hiring coach José Mourinho if he wins the elections for the presidency of said club, scheduled for June 7, 2026,” the Portuguese entity said in a statement.

Furthermore, they revealed that if Florentino Pérez is elected president of Real Madrid, the Portuguese coach will live a second stage at the Madrid club after paying 15 million euros, “corresponding to the termination clause of the current sports employment contract.”

Benfica is a club listed on the Portuguese stock exchange and is obliged to report all its operations, which is why it sent this statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM, for its acronym in Portuguese).

The candidate to be re-elected president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, announced this Wednesday night the hiring of the Portuguese José Mourinho as coach. “MUCH history to be made. While on TV they talk, talk and talk…”, he published the candidacy in a video on his ‘X’ social network account, before Mourinho himself, wearing a Madrid shirt, came out in the foreground saying “yes.”

President from 2000 to 2006, and from 2009 until a few weeks ago when he decided to bring forward the elections, Florentino Pérez asked the members to vote and announced the Portuguese, who already took charge of the white club between 2010 and 2013.
