“In light of the press reports that have emerged in recent weeks regarding the Juve Stabia club, I thought it appropriate to send a note to the Committee established within the Anti-Mafia Parliamentary Commission which deals with mafia infiltration in sporting events and the relationships between organized crime and sports clubs, of which I am a member, asking them to evaluate the urgent summoning of the managers of the Stabia club to acquire any useful element of knowledge on the current situation”. This was declared by Senator Filippo Melchiorre, member of the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission and of the Committee dedicated to the analysis of criminal infiltration in the world of sport.
“The objective – continues Melchiorre – is to carry out the appropriate institutional investigations, in full respect of the prerogatives of the competent bodies and the people involved, in order to verify any profiles of interest for the Committee and guarantee maximum transparency on events that concern an important sporting reality that is very followed in the area”.
“The Committee has the task of collecting useful elements to understand the extent of the possible interference of organized crime in the world of sport, with particular attention to the phenomena linked to the control of fans, touting, illegal betting and the relationships between criminal organizations and sports clubs. For this reason I believe it is necessary to shed full light on the matter, in the interests of legality, the protection of sport and fans”, he concludes.
