Football World Cup: In front of Norway-Senegal: Weather service warns of floods

“Showers and possible thunderstorms with high concentrations of moisture are expected to move across the area this afternoon and next night,” the NWS weather service said. “These showers can bring rainfall rates of up to about five centimeters per hour. Such intensities could lead to flash flooding, particularly in urban areas and zones with poor drainage.”

Mayor Mamdani: Allow more time

The warning applies to parts of New York City and New Jersey and also includes the area around the stadium where the World Cup final is scheduled to take place on July 19th.

The New York City Emergency Management Agency issued a travel warning. “I urge everyone to plan ahead and allow more time for a safe journey,” said Mayor Zohran Mamdani. “No destination is worth risking your own safety. If the weather conditions worsen, stay indoors and wait until it is safe to travel again.”

If a game is interrupted or canceled due to force majeure, according to World Cup regulations it must be continued later in the corresponding minute and with the same score. However, FIFA also has the right to cancel, reschedule or postpone a game for security reasons.
