F1: Russell triumphs in Austria, Hamilton is fifth

George Russell completes a practically perfect weekend and wins the Austrian F1 Grand Prixachieving the seventh victory of his career. The Briton from Mercedes, who hadn’t won since the opening race of this season in Australia, preceded the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, second and third respectively.

The Ferrariafter a good qualifying Saturday, did not go beyond fifth place with Lewis Hamiltonwhich closes behind the McLaren on Oscar Piastri. The other Red of Charles Leclerchowever, slipped to eighth place, preceded by Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and Lando Norris (McLaren). The two Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad complete the top 10 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Syria. “I’m happy to be back on the top step, it’s been a while and I want to enjoy it together with my team”: this was George Russell’s immediate comment after the victory. “We got back on track after a difficult period of form,” observed the British driver, “Today Max and the Red Bull were really fast and congratulations to him. Today was a good race.” “I had to push to the limit, because they were both fast at the back”, added Russell, “the team found the perfect timing for the pit stops”. “Difficult races test you psychologically,” he noted, “the last few weekends have been vital in reminding me that I’m still capable.
