Tennis: Serena Williams is injured and the doubles match with Venus Williams may be cancelled

American Williams suffered a knee injury in Tuesday’s singles match Maya Jointia against, and now it is uncertain whether he will be able to play together with his big sister by Venus Williams with doubles.

Williams should face Colombia in the doubles on Friday Camila Osorio and Argentina Solana Sierra.

23-time singles grand slam winner Serena Williams, 44, lost to Joint 3–6, 7–6, 3–6 on Tuesday.

After the match, Williams did not attend the mandatory media conference. If this happened without just cause, he will be fined £46,500 (€54,300).

Williams’ agent Jill Smoller stated on Wednesday in a press release of The Guardian according to Williams will miss media duties after suffering a knee injury in the opening set of the match.

However, during the match, Williams was not treated for an injury and was not found to be injured. However, in the third set of the match, Williams’ movement was slower than earlier in the match.

Williams herself stated in her Instagram update that her knee sprained.

“I sprained my knee at the end of the first set, but I’m doing everything I can to be ready for doubles with Venus Williams,” Williams writes.

Williams returned to professional tennis in June after a nearly four-year hiatus, but had played just two doubles matches before Tuesday’s singles.
