England, World Cup show: beats Mexico 3-2 and goes to the quarterfinals

England overcome the Mexico obstacle and fly to the quarter-finals of the World Cup at the end of a match full of a thousand emotions: it was decided by the double from Bellingham and the penalty converted by Kane, which imposed the Tricolor’s first defeat against the Azteca in a World Cup (after eight wins and two draws).

The first ring of the match goes to Aguirre’s men, with a nice header from Jimenez which finds the great response of Pickford. For a long stretch, this is the only flash in a very blocked match, with England’s maneuver appearing slow and predictable. The shock arrives in the 36th minute with a quick counterattack from Rice which then saw Saka deliver a cross to the far post perfect for the Bellingham headerwhich scored on the day he became the youngest ever (23 years and 6 days) to reach the ten appearances in a World CupAnd. After a minute and a half (not even thirty seconds of actual time) Bellingham scores double on Kane’s assistafter a ferocious recovery by Anderson on Mora.

Stubborn Mexico comes close to equalising

A one-two that would have knocked out any team, but not Mexico, who at 42′ accorcia with Quinonesquick to coordinate Quansah’s sweep attempt after a melee in the area. In added time the hosts came close to equalizing three times, due with Jimenez and one with Montes anticipated at the last moment by Bellingham, but without success. In the second half, after a post hit by O’Reilly, the episode that changes the game arrives in the 54th minute, when Quansah enters with a straight leg on Gallardo and is sent off by Faghani after the on-field review.

England clings to Kane

England then clings to Kane, who with a bank favors the insertion of Gordon, knocked down by Rangel: it’s a penaltyconverted in the 60th minute by the same Bayern Munich striker. Mexico is two goals down again, but the game is far from over. In the 69th minute, in fact, it is time for a new on-field review: Kane, in an attempt to sweep, kicks Gutierrez’s foot and Faghani concedes another penalty, which Jimenez doesn’t miss. The last quarter of an hour (to which are added well eleven minutes of added timegiven the numerous interruptions) is of pure suffering for England and of hope for Mexico, with Aguirre playing with the triple center forward also inserting Gimenez (out in the last minutes due to a bad ankle twist) and Martinez, but without success: ends 3-2 and Saturday night England will challenge Norway.
