A possible move for goalkeeper Noah Atubolu from SC Freiburg to Eintracht Frankfurt is apparently getting closer. According to media reports, the goalkeeper has extended his contract in Freiburg, which originally only ran until 2027, in order to be able to be loaned out this summer. This would not have been possible if the contract expired at the end of the season. The “Kicker” and “Bild” reported on it.
“What I can confirm is that this can be a model for a future solution,” said SC coach Julian Schuster when asked about the reports before the Conference League playoff second leg against FC Motherwell (Thursday, 6:45 p.m./SWR). “Of course you can imagine: the closer Monday comes, the more train there is behind it.” By the end of the transfer phase there will probably be “something else to confirm,” explained the coach before the game against the Scots.
Hanging game is coming to an end
Atubolu expressed his desire to change to the SC bosses a long time ago. The 24-year-old initially considered a transfer to the English Premier League, but this did not materialize. Eintracht now seems to be the preferred goal. However, Frankfurt cannot currently make any major financial leaps on the transfer market. A loan with a subsequent purchase option or obligation to purchase would therefore be a model that all parties could probably live with.
Above all Atubolu, who after three years as number one among the Freiburg professionals has now been replaced by Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen for a 12 million euro purchase. And for whom the transfer summer turned out to be a tough game that was certainly not expected.
