None of the three Croatian crews in the doubles competition, which competed in the semifinals of the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam on Wednesday, will fight for medals, and the closest to the A final were the brothers Martin i Valent Sinkovćwho won čfourth place in their semi-final group.
Although the three-time Olympic winners and four-time world champions in the duo (pair and coxswain) rowed their fastest race of this World Championship (6:33.64 minutes) in the semi-final, it was not enough for the three crews who will fight for the distinction in their semi-final group. They will have to compete in the B final for the ranking from seventh to 12th place.
The Sinkovi’s were in third place until half way through the race, but in the second 1000 meters the Spaniards overtook them and convincingly won third place. In front of the Sinkovi brothers. are the goals of the last crew of the Netherlands (6:24.80), Serbia (6:26.99) and Spain (6:30.25).
Along with those three duos, the place in the A final was secured in the first semi-final race by the crews of Great Britain (6:26.53), Belgium (6:28.03) and Czechia (6:29.23).
– Unfortunately, we did not enter the A final. We fought like lions and did our best. It just didn’t work out, but I’m proud because we really fought until the end and tried to do our best. It wasn’t enough, the opponents were really better – said Valent Sinkovi after the race.
Brother Martin also agreed with him.
– We really gave everything we had. There were a lot of problems during the preparations, including health problems, but we will not dwell on that. Let’s work for the second year and try to row the B final as well as possible.
Brothers and Sons On Friday (2:09 p.m.) in the B final, the competitors will be duos from Portugal, New Zealand, Italy, Germany and Romania. Braća Anton and Patrik Lončarić won the last place in their semi-final group (7:09.06 minutes) in the duo without a coxswain and will perform in the B final on Friday (1:59 p.m.).
Before them (1:54 p.m.) ć in the B final of the same discipline in the women’s competition, the rowing sisters Ivan and Josip Jurković who, like the Lončarić brothers, were the last to cross the finish line in their group (7:37.57).
