Handball: Knee injury: National player Kiesler will be out for weeks

National handball player Tom Kiesler tore an outer ligament in his knee during training and will be missing from Bundesliga club VfL Gummersbach for several weeks. “This is brutal, we are all very affected,” said VfL coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson at Dyn. The injury should initially be treated conservatively.

For Kiesler, who won European Championship silver with the DHB selection in January, this also means a setback on the way to the home World Cup in January. It is at least questionable whether the 25-year-old defense specialist will be fit in time for the start of the international match this season. The team of national coach Alfred Gislason will meet Belgium on November 5th in Berlin as part of the European Championship qualification.
