Before all football opening games Champions League this week there will be a minute of silence by which the European Football Federation (Uefa) wanted to draw attention to the devastating consequences of floods in Nepal. The flash flood that hit the Nepalese-Tibetan border area on August 26 claimed almost 1,400 lives, and more than 5,000 people are still missing almost two weeks after the disaster.
Given that the Champions League season starts this week, Uefa also intends to express its sympathy and support.
– The entire European football family will stand together before this week’s matches to express their deepest sympathy and support to the people of Nepal. We wish them strength and resilience as they continue to recover from this tragedy and its consequences, said UEFA President Aleksander Eferin.
Before all 18 matches of the first round of the Champions League, which will take place between Tuesday and Thursday, a banner with the inscription “Nepal, You are not alone” will be displayed.
