The Karlsruhe top talent Louey Ben Farhat wants to play for the German national team in the future. The move from the Tunisian association to the German Football Association (DFB) should be completed soon, as several sources close to the player confirmed to the German Press Agency. The portal “transfermarkt.de” first reported. So far, the 20-year-old offensive player has appeared twice for Tunisia’s senior national team.
Ben Farhat would actually have been nominated for the last World Cup in the summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico, but canceled his participation a few weeks before the tournament. He justified the waiver, which was much criticized in Tunisia, with the consequences of the metatarsal fracture he suffered in August 2025. If he had played for Tunisia at the World Cup, he would no longer have been eligible to play for new national coach Jürgen Klopp’s team.
Will the debut in the U21 follow?
Ben Farhat is likely to make his DFB debut in coach Antonio Di Salvo’s U21 team. It is unclear whether he has already nominated him for the European Championship qualifiers in Latvia (September 26th), Malta (September 30th) and in Bielefeld against Georgia (October 6th).
Just a few days ago, Ben Farhat also changed clubs and signed a contract with SC Freiburg. The Bundesliga club immediately loaned the strong dribbling striker back to second division club KSC. Ben Farhat himself spoke of a “win-win situation” after the 2-2 draw in Hannover. He is very happy that his future is now clear.
