Austria’s U21 team fails due to efficiency and the referee

This team had enough quality – and there were enough chances in the 1-1 draw against Denmark.

But the U21 failed at the sports club pitch due to their own efficiency and a scandalous refereeing performance.

Strong ÖFB squad

It had already changed when it was set up Increase in quality in the U21 shown over the past year: Sattlersthe long-time captain, was not in the squad – displaced in the center by Bajlicz and the 17-year-old Weinhandl.

Only Wurmbrand, who had already celebrated an A-Team goal, sat on the bench. Fidjeu-Tazemetawho is currently getting started at Kaiserslautern, was preferred as a wing in the 4-2-3-1.

In the 16th minute, the one transferred from the A team won Markovic the ball in the Danes’ penalty area. But neither Dursun (now a regular at the Swiss champions Thun), still Hödl put the ball in the goal from close range.

The Peter Perchtold’s team tried to dominate – even if that was on the shockingly bad lawn It was a mostly slippery affair in the city of Vienna’s new stadium.

The Danes’ first chance was also a great one: Pricey shot just wide (22′).

The striker showed the Danes’ enormous potential: he had not only finished with Djurgaarden Rapid in 2025, but also from the starting eleven Young star Harder ousted, who was worth 19 million euros to Sporting Lisbon and 14 million euros to Leipzig.

3 top chances in 6 minutes

A Denmark legionnaire almost cheered against the Danes, but Olivier von Brondby headed a corner unmarked over the goal (38′). Also debutant at centre-back Zabransky von Salzburg failed with a completely free header (43′).

And there was one in between real hundreds: After a bad pass Dursun Free in front of the goal: The last hook was good, but the ex-Rapidler’s shot was Prey from goalie Sander (42nd).

Even after the break it was fine Referee Levy not about the quality of the players, but just about the quality of the playing field: At first the Israeli overlooked one Torraub-Foul an Dursunin return one Hand in Zabransky’s face.

The Danes were allowed to finish the attack, Joker Harder celebrated the 0:1 (50th).

Rare would be one VAR in Dornbach been so necessary.

Jokers put pressure on

Kojzek, Adewumi and Adejenughure were supposed to turn things around. Austria pressed on in front of 2,674 fans.

Wurmbrand only came after 67 minutes. Immediately afterwards the overdue 1:1 fell. Weinhandl shot, Erik Kojzek from Partizan Belgrade made a deflection (69′).

After a Stanglpass was Wormbrand freebut the Rapid team didn’t hit the goal on five (72′).

After that, Levy missed another one Headbutt from Adejenughure (85.).
With many interruptions, the pressure from the ÖFB talents was also gone.

In the 98th minute there was still Yellow-red for Askou. But the necessary ÖFB goal was no longer scored.

With a Landmark victory in Wales Austria should still have hope on Tuesday – if Belgium also clearly defeats the Danes.
