The defense chief stays in Köpenick: Robin Knoche extends his contract with 1. FC Union – Sport

Robin Knoche has extended his contract with 1. FC Union. The defense boss came on a free transfer from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2020 and immediately became a regular in Berlin. In his now almost two seasons at Union, he only missed one game – due to a yellow card suspension. Knoche’s contract would have expired this summer and recently a farewell to another top performer from Berlin seemed to be possible. But unlike Robert Andrich, Marvin Friedrich, Max Kruse or Grischa Prömel, who left the club or will change in the summer, Union can also plan with Knoche in the coming season. The club did not provide any information about the contract period.

“I felt very comfortable at Union right from the start. When you move to a new club for the first time after 15 years, you first have to get used to a lot of new things. Union made it very easy for me right from the start and gave me a great welcome. We managed to stay up again, qualified for Europe and asserted ourselves in European competition. These moments and the very good discussions with those responsible at the club made the decision easy for me,” Robin Knoche is quoted as saying in a club statement.

Union manager Oliver Ruhnert hopes that Knoche will “continue to be an essential part of our Bundesliga team in the coming years”. his consistent performances have made him a top performer in our team,” says Ruhnert. (Tsp)
