Celtic and Rangers fans are laughing again at visits to the Old Firm

Scottish Premier League fans Rangers and Celtic will be allowed to buy tickets for their clubs’ away matches next season after the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) said on Friday it would offer clubs a share of around five per cent. Away fans were not present at recent Old Firm derby matches due to a dispute over tickets and fan safety.

According to the new allocation, around 2,500 Celtic fans could follow their club at Ibrox Stadium, while around 3,000 Rangers fans could travel to Celtic Park.

“This will take effect from the 2024/25 Scottish Premiership season, subject to all necessary requirements being met at both Ibrox and Celtic Park,” the SPFL said in a statement.

“This does not affect the remaining two league matches between the clubs in the 2023/24 season, which will be played without away fans.”

Celtic are top of the league after 30 rounds with a point more than second-placed Rangers, who have a game in hand. Last month, Rangers were forced to cancel all tickets bought by Celtic fans for a Scottish Premier League match at Ibrox due to the risk of rioting because the stands are not segregated.
