The BR Volleys spread confidence before the match point to reach the finals of the German volleyball championship. The team wants to get the missing third semi-final win against SVG Lüneburg in the “Best of Five” playoff series on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. “We won’t give anything away to Lüneburg and we have enough experience to be able to do that,” said team captain Ruben Schott. In the event of a defeat, the BR Volleys would have to play again in Lüneburg on Friday, and a crucial fifth match would take place in Berlin on April 9th.
In the first two games against Lower Saxony, the Volleys retained the upper hand 3-1. However, outside attacker Schott also came to the realization: “Lüneburg doesn’t make it easy for us.” His teammate Timothee Carle confirms: “Regardless of whether we are ahead by two or three breaks, Lüneburg are always difficult to shake off.” In order to still hold their own , advises the Frenchman: “We must never lose tension.”
If the BR Volleys actually make it to the final for the 13th time in a row, they would face the winner of the second semi-final between the Grizzlys Giesen and VfB Friedrichshafen (playoff score: 1:1). Schott knows that the BR Volleys face another big challenge if they make it to the final: “If we beat Lüneburg, that doesn’t mean that we are automatically German champions.”
