Athletico scores biggest defeat in continental tournaments

O 6 a 0 do Athletico against Rayo Zuliano at the Ligga Arena became the club’s biggest defeat in continental tournaments in history. Between Sul-Americana, Libertadores, Recopa and Seletiva, Furacão had never scored six goals.

Previously, the biggest defeat had been against Caracas, 5-1, in the group stage of the 2022 Libertadores. For the South American, the most elastic score was against Aucas in the 4-0, in the 2021 group stage. Both also indoors.

Against Zuliano, with a team almost entirely starting, Furacão opened the scoring with Fernandinho and expanded with Esquivel, Canobbio and Pablo in the initial stage. In the second half, the goals went to Mastriani and Canobbio again, completing the historic rout (See the best moments below).

Now, Athletico returns to the field for the debut of Brasileirão 2024. Furacão faces Cuiabá on Sunday (14), at 4pm, again at the Ligga Arena. The next duel for the South American Championship will be against Danubio, on the 24th, at 7pm, at the Centenário Stadium, in Uruguay.
