Sevilla regains second position after beating Granada ‘in extremis’

Sevilla rediscovered the path to victory four days later after beating Granada (4-2) in a match more even than the score says, which was resolved in the final stretch and which allows the Nervionenses to be in second position in the premiere of chapter 31 in the Santander League.

Julen Lopetegui’s team was forced to offer its best version to take the three points in the derby against Granada. The night began with difficulties for the Nervión team due to a great goal from Darwin Machís after 23 minutes of play. The Venezuelan surprised Bono with a kick from outside the area.

The local team replied very quickly just nine minutes later with a goal from Diego Carlos and -after game time- the local comeback came with a shot from Lucas Ocampos that did not make the Nasrids dwarf. Rubén Torrecilla’s team continued to suffer but did not lose face until the end.

It was then that Sevilla wanted to close the win with a right foot from Rafa Mir, but the referee annulled the goal when he was called by the VAR and verified a previous foul in the action. There the game changed and Granada came up in search of a tie. The rojiblancos found a prize with two minutes remaining in a corner.

Captain Víctor Díaz scored with an unappealable header but Sevilla, very injured after the goal, turned to attack in the final minutes in search of a miracle. And that’s where it came from, first it was Rafa Mir who brought madness to Sánchez-Pizjuán and ‘Papu’ Gómez closed the Sevilla victory with a shot at will already in stoppage time.

In this way, Sevilla regains second position with a three-point advantage over FC Barcelona and once again believes in the fight for the title in the absence of Real Madrid hosting Getafe this Saturday. Granada, for its part, continues to flirt with relegation and maintains a three-point lead in the absence of the day being completed.
