The Croatian boxing champion was attacked in Belgrade: He approached me and said 'let me see how you do it'

Croatian champion up to 86 kilograms in boxing and kickboxing, from Vrgor Nikica Radonić, was injured in an attack by hooligans on Monday in Belgrade, where he was waiting for a doctor. čquarter finals of the European Boxing Championship.

– I came out of the hotel where we were staying to run around a bit, a guy came up to me with a cheeky answer “Let me see how you do it” while his other two assistants surrounded me. I wasn’t 100 percent sure if one of them had nož so I slipped out and passed by this one, as I was moving I twisted my leg. I didn’t suffer any blows, but I did knock my leg down and ended up in the emergency room. Afterwards, I spent a good part of the day in the police – said Radonić for Sports News and added:

– My leg is swollen, I can’t lean on it well. If the fight was in five days, I could enter the ring, as difficult as this. I didn’t expect this, it’s probably some hooligans and drug addicts who gather in that park. That’s what the police told me.

Radoni’s coach from the Split boxing club Zvonimir Giljanović he is looking for a reaction from the state as well.

– This is a shame, we expect a quick reaction from the Croatian Boxing Association and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If this had happened to Serbian athletes in Split or Zagreb, everything in Croatia and Serbia would have risen to its feet. Isn’t it sad that a young athlete can’t leave the hotel for half an hour in the nearby park, dressed normally, without any markings, and has to fear that some hooligan will stab him with a knife? What kind of organization is that – he wonders.

Radonsć was supposed to box with the Russian Atayev Sharabudtin in the fight for the semi-finals, but he will, according to everything, have to withdraw from the fight.
