Cuca jokes and is serious. And the case of Di Yorio and Benítez at Athletico

After the victory of Athletico – 1-0 in Montevideo over the Danube, in the South American Championship –, so he said Cuca, his coach: “Of eleven games we won ten. Not even Real Madrid and Manchester City managed it.” Followed by the phrase, a smile.

The most important thing about Cuca’s demonstration was his smile. Its ironic nature projected a feeling of certainty and seriousness, a kind of self-criticism that was the board’s obligation to do so: Furacão may have a squad to play, but it does not have one to compete in the 2024 rounds. Playing depends on the number of players ; compete, quality.

But self-criticism is what the board doesn’t do.

Another week passed without the board (serious, in fact) of Petraglia, Glomb, Gaede and Küster having decided to open an investigation to determine responsibility for the hiring of Romeo Benítez and Lucas Di Yorio at a cost of R$ 26 million.

The memory and comparison are inevitable: for hiring the late Morro Garcia, in 2011, Athletico ethically and civilly prosecuted historic and honest athletes, subjecting them to a popular trial that opened wounds that were impossible to heal. It went further: its Ethics Council recommended the expulsion of the former president Marcos Malucellia human model of morality, which was implemented by the counselors.

I was excited when Mario Celso Petraglia stated that one of his objectives as president was to “shield” Athletico to end the suffering caused by the mistreatment it received during its history.

It turns out that the past “mistreatment” was done in good faith, by idealistic athletes, the majority of whom sacrificed personal values. This case of In Yorio e Benitez It’s so strange that it’s impossible to use the lack of ability to hide one’s true intentions.
