What Rapid coach Klauss planned before the final cup clash against Sturm

If Thomas Darazs is the starting eleven Rapid If you guess, the LASK interim coach deserves a prize. Before leaving for Linz I didn’t even know Robert Klauss who will arrive for Rapid on Sunday from 2.30 p.m.

A total of seven Rapid players – in addition to the four fixed absences – are either injured, had no match practice after a break or were injured during the week. “With so many changes, it is clear that we have lost the automatisms,” says Klauß, who reflects on the long injury list thought: “If there was a pattern or a lot of muscle injuries, we would have to question ourselves. But there’s everything there, from fouls with consequences to bad luck.”

With a bit of luck, Rapid could do that Cup final on Wednesday with the best possible cast. But what about match practice? According to KURIER information, an unusual plan for central defenders is being developed: Leo Querfeld and Nenad Cvetkovic could split the 90 minutes – Querfeld with a temporary comeback and the Serb with the second appearance after the cruciate ligament tear. “90 minutes are probably still too long for Cvetkovic,” suspects Klauß.

What is certain is that we have to improvise at the left back because of the Auer barrier. Moormann is injured. Kongolo would be the last left-footed left-footer left in defence, but is – you guessed it – ailing.

Kasanwirjo is the man for all situations at Rapid

Allrounder Kasanwirjo

This makes Kasanwirjo an all-rounder. The right-back recently helped out in the center, and now Klauß believes the Dutchman can also have a debut at left back.

With a five point gap to LASK, only a win will help in the fight for third place. “We are focusing on the league, we want three points, only then will the cup come,” says Klauß.Alexander Huber
