Leverkusen maintains its unbeaten record in a “dramatic” manner

Bayer Leverkusen, the newly crowned champion of the German Football League, turned the tables on its guest, Stuttgart, and came back from afar after losing by two goals to force a 2-2 draw in the final hour on Saturday in the 31st stage.

Stuttgart took the lead with goals from Chris Foresch (47) and Dennis Ondav (56), before Leverkusen rose up and responded through Moroccan Amin Adly (61) and Robert Andrich in the sixth minute of stoppage time in the second half.

It is the seventeenth goal scored by Leverkusen this season in all competitions after the 89th minute, according to the German League website.

After clinching the league title for the first time in its history in the twenty-ninth stage, Leverkusen maintained its record unbeaten in 31 league matches (25 wins versus 6 draws), while Xabi Alonso’s team had only three matches remaining to become the first team to play a season in “ Bundesliga” without loss.

Leverkusen raised its tally in all competitions to 46 consecutive matches without defeat this season, awaiting its anticipated summit against its Italian host Roma next Thursday in the first leg of the semi-finals of the European League “Europa League”.

“I haven’t seen this happen very often in football,” Alonso told Sky about his team’s fatal draw. “It’s hard to explain.”

Leverkusen has so far scored 10 goals to secure a win or tie in stoppage time this season.

He continued, “Last week, I was a little emotional, but this week I couldn’t believe we did it again.”
