Dominic Thiem skips the tournament in Rome

Dominic Thiem may only be available again in the Qualification for the French Open return to competitive tennis (from May 20th). The 30-year-old from Lower Austria canceled his trip to Rome after his second-round defeat a week ago in qualifying for the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid against Thanasi Kokkinakis (AUS). It would be possible to be deployed before Paris ATP tournament in Geneva. But only if he has one Wildcard for Roland Garros receives.

The all-clear is given by Austria’s number 1, Sebastian Ofner, who was last eliminated in round one in Madrid and was physically weak. “Ofi had Problems with his neck, it was a bit on fire. Now he’s doing well again,” explains his manager Moritz Thiem.

Ofner’s appearance at the Foro Italico in Rome (from May 8th) is certain, and he may play before the French Open in Geneva. In Paris, last year’s round of 16 will of course be in the main competition. Thiem is preparing for his next assignment in Traiskirchen and Oberpullendorf.
