The Government convinces Vicente del Bosque to protect the Federation

It hasn’t been easy. It took a week for me to say yesbut finally Vicente del Bosque has accepted and will be the president of the “Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission” that the Government has created ‘ad hoc’ to protect, if not directly direct, the destinations of the Spanish Federation of Soccer. This was announced, by surprise, by the Minister of Sports, Pilar Alegra, at the press conference after the Council of Ministers this Tuesday.

“Last week we created the Supervision, Normalization and Representation Commission of the RFEF. A body of guardianship, supervision of the RFEF that has three objectives. Firstly, to represent Spanish football; secondly, to ensure transparency and the good work of the next electoral process what the Federation has to experience after the Olympics return; and thirdly, successfully face the challenges that Spanish football has ahead of it: the Euro Cup, the Olympic Games and the 2030 World Cup. For me it is a pride to announce that the person who exercises The presidency of this Commission is Vicente del Bosque“said Alegra.

Since leaving the national team in 2016, Del Bosque has been quite reluctant to appear in anything that had to do with football, especially with Real Madrid and, to a lesser extent, with the Federation itself. Nor did I receive with special enthusiasm the proposal a few days ago, but he finally accepted.

It is difficult to think of a better image for the Federation, and everything indicates that he will be the official representation during the next Euro Cup and the next Olympic Games. With the former coach, the Government has looked for an indisputable figure, who can serve as an alibi, or at least a parapet, in the real conflict that exists with UEFA and FIFA. Del Bosque, beyond his conciliatory nature and his ability to unite wills, is champion of the world and of Europe with the national team. The two institutions, UEFA and FIFA will probably be forced to measure his words, and his actions, with Del Bosque in front.

Of course, no one thinks that Del Bosque is going to make difficult decisions. His role being merely institutionaland it will be the rest of the members (“people of recognized prestige in various fields”, according to Rodríguez Uribes) who will carry the burden of guardianship and supervision.

The Government’s announcement comes the same day it should have met the CSD Board of Directors to study the possible provisional suspension of Pedro Rocha after the TAD has opened a file against him for “very serious” misconduct.

However, the meeting has been suspended due to the request for documentation requested by the TAD, in relation to the opening of a disciplinary file for possible very serious infractions against the members of the Management Commission.

The court has requested 40 additional documents, which will be required by the CSD from the RFEF. These are minutes, contracts, reports, files and documentation, among other things. The CSD Steering Committee will meet in the coming days.
