About twenty-five young people from SD Gernika Football Club They have shaved their hair in solidarity with a teammate with cancer, as the Athletic players did in support of Yeray Álvarez.

As Ramón Santos Gandarias, communications director of the SD Gernika Club, announced to EFE today, the 14 and 15 year olds of the cadet A team surprised the fans two weeks ago when they took the field with their heads shaved in a match against the Deusto.

Gandarias has explained that the moment in which, without prior notice, they were seen for the first time with shaved hair was “very exciting” for everyone present and, especially, for the father of the sick young man who had come to watch the game.

Likewise, he has explained that his “great gesture of solidarity” He has been “very grateful” for his sick companion and has also caused great admiration among the residents of Gernika.

The young people who have shaved their heads are the players of the cadet A team of the SD Gernika club, as well as some of the B and C cadet teams of the same sports club.

Next Sunday, the young people will play against Indautxu at the Urbieta field in Gernika, where they will once again show off their shaved heads to send all their encouragement to their teammate who is now fighting cancer.
