Sant Andreu returns to Sabadell and lifts the first Copa de la Reina Iberdrola in its history

CN Sant Andreu won this Sunday in the final of the Iberdrola Queen’s Cup at the Can Llong pools in Sabadell (Barcelona) by coming back against Astralpool CN Sabadell (13-12) and has won the first title in its history in the women’s water polo section.

After several stops by Laura Ester and Martina Terré, Judith Forca opened the scoring for the locals with just over a minute left in the first quarter, although Gisel.la Farré managed to equalize before the end of that first period.

As soon as the second started, Irene González scored for Astralpool Sabadell and Maica García made it 1-3. Paula Crespí closed the gap, but in the next play Judith Forca made it 2-4; she herself raised the score to 2-5. Paula Leitón and Elena Ruiz closed the gap for the Andresenses (4-5) before Bea Ortiz, from Vaseline, increased it again (4-6).

At the restart, Irene González put the three ahead (4-7) at the beginning of an exchange of goals that left the score at 6-10 with 4:09 remaining in the quarter. Two left-footed shots from Ari Ruiz put Javi Aznar’s team within two (8-10) and Keuning returned the three lead to David Palma’s team.

In the final set, Ari Ruiz and Elena Ruiz brought theirs closer and Marina Cordobés tied the match (11-11). Judith Forca once again put the Vallesanas ahead (11-12) with just over three minutes remaining, but Elena Ruiz was in charge of tying the first Cup in the history of the women’s section.
