The Champions League semi-final ended in an uproar – Bayern were surprised by the referee’s actions

Real Madrid progressed to the final of the Champions League with late goals.

Spanish giant Real Madrid dramatically cleared their way to the men’s Champions League final by defeating Germany’s Bayern Munich 2-1 on Wednesday.

Substitute player Joselu two goals in the final minutes put Real ahead in total goals by 4–3.

In the last seconds of extra time, Bayern had to level the match and the pair of matches.

A top Matthijs De Ligt even shot the ball into the goal, but the Polish referee Szymon Marciniak had already stopped the game at this point, and Real Madrid’s defenders didn’t play the situation to the fullest either.

In the Bayern camp, the action of the jury was not digested.

De Ligt himself stated in an interview with Bein Sports that the rules say that if it is not a clear offside, the game must be allowed to continue and the correct decision must be left to the video referee.

“If you whistle like that in the last minute, I think it’s a big, big mistake. Whether it’s offside or not, I don’t know, but it can be checked. If you don’t check, how can you be sure”, De Ligt snapped.

Bayern head coach Thomas Tuchel was on the same lines at the press conference. According to Tuchel, the assistant referee raised his flag too early already in another situation.

“It left me with a strange feeling. It is clear that what happened was against all the rules of modern football,” Tuchel described.

with Joselun the latter of the goals was initially flagged for offside. However, after a video review, the verdict was corrected and the goal was accepted when the situation was allowed to continue until the end.

“If the whistle had been blown immediately, nothing would have happened. This is a shame,” compared De Ligt.

“This wouldn’t have happened on the other side,” believed Tuchel.

De Ligt said the assistant referee admitted the mistake and apologized.

“We don’t get anything out of it,” De Ligt teased.

“This is a semi-final and not a moment for apologies, absolutely not,” snapped Tuchel.

In the final match Real Madrid will face another German team, Borussia Dortmund, who surprised Paris Saint-Germain in their own semi-final.

The final will be played on Saturday, June 1 in London at Wembley Stadium.
