Bayer Leverkusen is in the final of the Europa League. The Bundesliga soccer team, which has been crowned champions for the first time since mid-April, made it to the final despite the 2-2 (0-1) draw against AS Roma and will play for another title in Dublin against Atalanta Bergamo from Italy.
Leverkusen won the first leg in Italy 2-0. Argentinian world champion Leandro Paredes converted a foul penalty (43′) and a hand penalty (66′) for Rome to make it 2-0 for the guests despite Leverkusen’s oppressive superiority.
An own goal from the Roman Gianluca Mancini (82nd) and the late goal from Josip Stanisic (90th + 7) ensured that the Bayer team did not lose again. Leverkusen are now contesting two finals within four days to cap off a remarkable season.
Three days after the European final on May 22nd, the DFB Cup final against second division team 1. FC Kaiserslautern takes place in Berlin. In the second semi-final, Bergamo beat the traditional French club Olympique Marseille 3-0 in the second leg. The first leg ended 1-1.
