The Confederation of African Football (CAF) referred to the relevant authorities what it described as “violations and unacceptable behavior of the fans,” during and after the second leg of the African Confederation Cup (Confederation) Cup final between Egyptian Zamalek and its guest RS Berkane of Morocco at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.

CAF decided, according to a statement issued on its official website, today, Monday, “to refer the case to the relevant authorities and competent committees in the Federation to investigate it and take the necessary disciplinary measures regarding the behavior of the Zamalek Club, its players, its officials, and any other party during and after the match.”

The match witnessed events related to the public and media attendance, as a group of fans holding tickets failed to enter the stadiums, which were filled to capacity. A number of media card holders also failed to reach their cabin, according to what a CAF source told AFP, and stampedes also occurred.

According to the source, the matter continued during the cup handover ceremony, as the platform area designated for the ceremony was filled with dozens of people who were not authorized to be there, which led to some confusion and the inability of media representatives to carry out their duties in taking official photos.

It is expected that the Competitions and Disciplinary Committees and the Security and Safety Committee of the African Union will discuss the reports received from the match coordinators and take the necessary decisions.

Zamalek won the Confederation Cup title for the second time in its history, by defeating RS Berkane in the second leg with a single goal, and was crowned champion on the away goal rule after losing the first leg 1-2 in Berkane last Sunday.
