After announcing the return to sale of its products, the Chinese technology giant Huawei plans re-produce cellular devices in Argentina next year, Carlos Morales Flores, director of the firm for Latin America, told the Télam news agency.
“There are plans to have Huawei cell phones again in Argentina. Telephony will return next year,” said Morales Flores, who specified that “the plan is to have telephony and comply with local regulations, so in that case we will comply with that. We will have to comply with that mandate to produce in Argentina”, he remarked.
For more than 10 years and based on non-automatic licenses and the tax scheme that governs the importation of electronic products, the Special Customs Area of Tierra del Fuego has been promoted as a productive pole for the manufacture of cellular devices.
The mobile phones Huawei began to be produced in 2010 in Tierra del Fuegoat the company plant BGHbut in 2019 operations in the country were stopped.
“There was a difficult global environment that forced us to take a break from business a few years ago. We didn’t want to leave for so long. The break we took lasted much longer than budgeted, but now we are happy to be able to return to Argentine market”, affirmed Morales Flores.
He stressed that for the Chinese firm “the Argentine market is one of the most important” worldwide, and pointed out that there is “great potential at this time” to develop business in the country.
“We paused but we have been present in the country for 21 years. Despite what is said about the economic environment that can be adverse at times, Huawei has been around for many years, and we are very confident in the country’s ability to move forward. If not, we would not be here”, assured the executive.
In recent weeks, Huawei announced the restart of its product marketing operations in the country with the arrival of two smart watches, a portable speaker and a laptop.
“We are going to offer notebooks, audio products and watches. We are optimistic about the development of notebooks and audio in Argentina. We are going to build the ecosystem again,” said Morales Flores, who anticipated that “there are plans to bring more products.”

At the beginning of the month, Huawei resumed its device sales in Argentina after two years of absence. The task, a priori, will not be easy since it will have to compete in a market dominated by Samsung and Motorola, which between them share more than 90% of the cake, and with a Xiaomi that landed in mid-2021.
The first products to be offered in the country after a break of just over two years are the Band 6 and WATCH FIT smartwatches, the Sound Joy wireless speaker and the ultra-slim MateBook D 14 laptop.
